​

Michael grew up in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. His parents were small business owners and Michael grew to love hard work and learning from a young age. Over summers and holidays, he worked in lawn care, driving a water truck, and reading meters. He valued the importance of a good education and also participated in athletics and fine arts. Michael graduated from Moorhead State University and the University of North Dakota School of Law and has lived in Blaine for over 24 years.

A life-long Minnesotan, Michael and his wife, Laura, live in Blaine with their three children, Anders, Josie, and Andrea, and two dogs, Harry and Misty.

Professional Background

Michael has practiced law for over 22 years, and has extensive experience in analyzing, understanding, evaluating, and solving complex problems. He currently practices real estate litigation and is a partner in a downtown Minneapolis law firm. He has brought that same skill set to the Spring Lake Park School Board and the Minnesota Senate to benefit our students and residents.

  • ​Voted best by peers as being in the top 2.5% of the Lawyers under 40 in Minnesota 2008-2009 and 2012-2016

  • Chair of the Hennepin County Bar Association, Real Property Section 2014-2017

  • Co-author of "Notes and Trends" for Bench and Bar of Minnesota magazine 2007-2017

  • Presented subject matter expertise in seminars to colleagues at professional law conferences

  • Tried and argued cases in state and federal district and appellate courts

  • Secured over $100 million to fully fund the Highway 65 construction project in Blaine

  • Passed over 20 bills into law during his first term in office while serving in the minority caucus

  • Elected by his colleagues to serve as the Assistant Minority Leader of the Minnesota Senate

Volunteer and
Civic Engagement

Michael believes that civic engagement is effective in building a strong community, and that fostering the development of our children is critical for a strong and vibrant future. That is why he volunteers time to serve his community and mentor children.​​
